Ahmedabad, 7th May 2023: Gujarat Titans (GT) thrashed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 56 runs to consolidate their top position with 16 points after winning eight of their 11 matches. Also, put one step in the arena of the playoffs. Interestingly, Gujarat, which played its first season last year, was the first to earn 16 points.

 

In the 51st match of the IPL, Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and decided to bat. Gujarat Titans scored 227 for two wickets in 20 overs at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. From Gujarat, opener Shubman Gill scored 94 runs off 51 balls. While Wriddhiman Saha scored 81 runs in 43 balls. Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan were the only wicket-takers from Lucknow.

 

Challenging Gujarat’s 228 runs, Lucknow got off to a good start, but Gujarat’s strong bowling restricted Lucknow to 171 runs. Mohit Sharma took four wickets in four overs and made a big mess of Lucknow’s batting. Quinton de Kock top-scored for Lucknow with 70 runs.

 

Lucknow Super Giants also got off to a strong start as they chased down the 228-run challenge set by Gujarat Titans. Openers Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock put on 88 runs in eight overs and finally, Mohit Sharma dismissed Mayers for 48 runs to give Lucknow their first blow.

 

Gujarat dealt two shocks to Lucknow who started strongly. Quinton De Kock completed his half-century after Mayers was dismissed. But his partner Deepak Hooda was dismissed by Mohammed Shami for 11 runs.

 

Marcus Stoinis, who came in after Deepak Hooda’s dismissal, returned after adding four runs. Rashid Khan then dismissed Quinton de Kock to give Lucknow a major blow. Puran also came back after scoring three runs. Due to this, Lucknow’s situation, which was 130 for two wickets at one time, became 153 for five in the 18th over.

 

After this, Ayush Badoni tried to fight a losing battle by scoring 21 runs off 11 balls. But Mohit dismissed him. Mohit then picked up his fourth wicket by dismissing Krunal Pandya for a wicket. In the end, Lucknow could only score 171 for seven in 20 overs and Gujarat won the match by 56 runs.
