Pune: Woman Cheated of Rs 69 Lakhs in Loan Fraud by Friend and Accomplices
Pune, 4th May 2023: A woman has been cheated out of Rs 69 lakhs by her friend and accomplices, who forced her to take out a loan and then failed to make the payments.
The victim, a female bank employee, had been approached by her friend Kalyani Shashikant Lonkar, who claimed she urgently needed between Rs 50 and 60 lakhs to deal with problems in her married life. Kalyani persuaded her friend to take out a loan in her name and introduced her to Uttam Shelke, who Kalyani claimed could approve the loan.
Using the documents provided by the victim, Kalyani managed to take out a loan of Rs 80 lakhs in the victim’s name, paying off only Rs 48 lakhs before defaulting on the remaining payments. When the victim confronted Kalyani and her parents, they physically assaulted her. The victim eventually lodged a complaint with the Bibvewadi police station, leading to the registration of a case against Kalyani and her parents, as well as Shelke and two other accomplices.
The case is being investigated by police inspector Anita Hivarkar.
