IPL 2023: Punjab Beats Chennai By Four Wickets

Chennai, 30th April 2023: The match between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went down to the last ball. Finally, Sikandar ran three runs off the last ball and gave Punjab their fifth win. The 41st match of IPL 2023 was held at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai.

 

Prabhasimran Singh (42) and Liam Livingstone (40) played an important role in this victory of Punjab. From Chennai, Tushar Deshpande took three wickets and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets to defend 200 runs.

 

Punjab tried to get off to an aggressive start to chase down Chennai Super Kings’ 201-run challenge. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhasimran Singh brought Punjab to half-centuries in four overs. But Tushar Deshpande ended Shikhar Dhawan’s knock of 28 runs off 15 balls.

 

After that, Prabhasimran took Punjab to 80 runs in eight overs. But Ravindra Jadeja took the wicket of Prabhasimran, who scored 42 runs in 24 balls and gave a big shock to Punjab. After this, Jadeja dismissed Atharva Taide for 13 runs. This made Punjab 94 for three.

 

After this, Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran batted aggressively and helped the team reach the 150 mark. This half-century partnership was broken by Tushar Deshpande in the 16th over. He dismissed Liam Livingstone who scored 40 off 24 balls. After this, Curran took the team to 170 runs and was dismissed for 29 runs.

 

Meanwhile, with the gap between the ball and run increasing, Jitesh Sharma smashed 21 runs off ten balls to take the team to 186 runs in the 19th over. He was dismissed by Tushar Deshpande for 21 runs. After this, the match came to nine runs in six balls. But Pathirana scored six runs in five overs to bring the match to one ball and three runs.

 

Punjab needed three runs to win the match and two runs to take the match to super over. Sikandar Raza of Punjab was on strike. Sikandar runs off Pathirana’s last ball for three runs to give Punjab victory.

 

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings scored 200 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs against Punjab Kings. Opener Devon Conway top-scored for Chennai with an unbeaten 92 off 52 balls. Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit two sixes off the last two balls of the last over to take Chennai to 200 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad contributed 37 runs and Shivam Dube contributed 28 runs.
