Pune, 25th April 2203: 71 megalithic rock circles from the Archaic Iron Age have come to light on a plateau near Yesamba village in the Wardha district. Oshin Bumb, who is a student of Deccan College doing his PhD research found the said stones. Reportedly, these stones are approximately 2,500 years ago.

The research on these scrolls has been published in the journal ‘Journal of History Archeology and Architecture’. Many Iron Age sites exist in the Vidarbha division of Maharashtra. After the British, Nagpur University, Deccan College, and State Archeological Department are conducting research at different places. The spiral structure found at Yesamba consists of large stones of different sizes on the outside and smaller stones on the inside.

Researcher Oshin Bumb informed that excavations at various places so far have revealed that the then society had a method of burying their dead ancestors in the ground in a very respectful and specific manner. Iron, copper, and alloy implement were associated with the deceased, and sometimes an animal was buried with the deceased.

“A similar practice must have prevailed in Yesamba as well. Perhaps for reasons of rebirth and respect for the deceased, this special burial ritual was traditionally practiced in the rural culture of the time,” Bumb said that the shape of the stones and the burial material found indicate a person’s social class.

The stones at Yesamba must be protected. Due to over-exploitation, this place is seen to be in danger.

Oshin was assisted by Panchsheel Thule, a local resident, for his research. “This research has added to the history of Wardha district and Vidarbha. Also, it is necessary to do more research in this regard,” said Prof Dr Shrikant Ganveer, Deccan College.
