Three Dead, 15 Injured After Truck Hits Neeta Travels Bus On Pune-Bangalore Highway In Narhe

Narhe, 23rd April 2023: In the early hours of the morning, a cargo truck collided with a private bus from behind on the Mumbai-Bangalore highway near Narhe-Ambegaon, leading to a serious accident. A total of 18 persons were rescued in injured condition and three of them have succumbed to the injuries.

As soon as the Fire Brigade control room was informed at 2.17 am, four fire engines along with seven firefighting vehicles, including a rescue van, were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the firefighters worked tirelessly to rescue the passengers who were trapped in the bus. The officers and jawans first broke the glass at the back of the bus and used a rope to pull out the injured passengers. Some women and a fifteen-year-old girl were trapped in the front, but the jawans managed to get them out despite their injuries. In total, eighteen injured passengers were rescued by the Fire Brigade and taken to a nearby hospital in government ambulance 108.

According to the police, the private bus belonged to Neeta Travels Company and was traveling from Kolhapur to Dombivli. The cargo truck, registered as MH10 CR 1224, was carrying a large quantity of sugar sacks. The truck hit the sleeper bus near Swaminarayan Temple after its brakes failed, officials said citing primary investigation.

Fire engines and a rescue van were dispatched to the scene, along with a PMRDA rescue van from the Fire Brigade headquarters. The firefighters used various firefighting equipment such as spreaders, cutters, lifting bags, guards, and foot pumps to carry out the rescue operation.

The injured passengers were taken to the hospital in six ambulances from 108. The accident caused severe traffic congestion on the Pune-Bangalore highway, which was cleared only after the rescue operation was completed.
