Pimpri, 21st April 2023: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner Shekhar Singh has ordered a fire audit of the municipal building within eight days after a ‘mock drill’ was conducted in the municipal administrative building during National Safety Week.

The drill aimed to test how to deal with any emergency situation in the municipal office, including testing the fire extinguishers and emergency systems installed in the building.

However, the mock drill exposed some significant errors in the system, such as the sound of the fire alarm being less than the whistles of the personnel, and some employees were going to the ground floor despite the emergency being on another floor. The dome installed on the terrace to prevent rain, sun, and wind from entering the building also made it difficult to detect smoke. After these errors were exposed, Commissioner Singh ordered a fire audit of the municipal building.

In addition, some errors were also found after a ‘mock drill’ was conducted in a mall in Chinchwad, and notices will be given to five big malls in the city. It will be inspected whether the measures suggested by the Municipal Corporation have been implemented or not.

According to Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Additional Commissioner, Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, after the firefighting audit of the headquarters, eight ward offices, all hospitals, theaters, and auditoriums will also be audited within one month.
