Pune: Wakad Police Detain Society Manager for Allegedly Misusing Rs 6.94 Lakh Funds
Wakad, 13th April 2023: A man has been arrested by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police over allegations of misusing funds from a housing society for personal gain.
The suspect, identified as Rahul Kangare, was taken into custody by the Wakad police station after an investigation revealed that he had misappropriated funds intended for the housing society’s maintenance and operations amounting to Rs 6.94 lakh.
According to the police, Rahul had served as the manager of the Pride Purple housing society, located in a suburban area in Pimpri Chinchwad, which consists of several residential and commercial units. He allegedly used the funds for his personal expenses, and the misappropriation of funds was reportedly carried out in the last six months.
The housing society is managed by a committee of elected members who had appointed Rahul as a manager in 2021 to look after the day-to-day society work. Recently, the society had appointed an agency to handle their finance and account-related work, but since the last six months, Rahul was dealing with it during which he misused the society funds.
Assistant police inspector Abhay Dabhade stated that “Rahul every time used to add one zero in the amount mentioned on the cheque and withdraw money. When the society appointed a new agency for account purposes, they found out 11 such transactions and asked about society office bearers, and then only the fraud came into light.”
The police have arrested the accused, and the court has granted him police custody till 14 April.
