Pune, 8th April 2023: Two explosions at night left many residents of the Bavdhan and Kothrud areas scared and anxious. This isn’t the first time explosions have occurred in the city, but this time they were closer to homes.

The two explosions occurred late at night around 1 am. The residents of Bavdhan, Right-Left Bhusari colony, Veda Bhavan, and Mahatma society area are protesting.

The explosions were caused by the construction work for the Chandni Chowk bridge, which is set to be inaugurated on May 1. The rush to complete the project has been condemned by residents of the area, who feel that their safety and well-being have been ignored. Prashant Kanojia from Kothrud spoke on behalf of the protesting citizens, saying that it was highly condemnable to play with the safety of citizens in the rush to complete the project.

The construction of the Chandni Chowk bridge is an important project in the state, and with only 23 days to go until the inauguration, the pressure is on to complete the work. Satish Shinde believes that the bridge should be inaugurated on Independence Day, August 15, to give it greater significance and glory. With an extra three and a half months, all remaining works will be expected, of high quality and durable, and will reduce further maintenance costs.

National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the agency responsible for the construction, has defended the use of explosives, saying that it is necessary to complete the work. However, residents are upset that they were not informed beforehand about the explosions, which left many of them scared and anxious. Children who are preparing for exams, sick or old people who need rest, were all affected by the sudden blasts. Residents feel that if they had been informed in advance, they could have prepared themselves mentally.

Prasad Shirgaonkar said that the Chandni Chowk bridge would solve traffic congestion in the area. However, the road work has caused chaos, with daily blasts occurring at around 1 am. The La Valle Casa society in Bavdhan was terrorized by these blasts, and despite many requests, applications, and meetings with NHAI, the situation has not improved. Members of society are demanding that the blasts stop immediately as they cannot bear them anymore.

Residents of the area are still dreaming of tomorrow, hoping that the road work will be completed soon, and the blasts will stop. They understand the importance of road work, but the use of explosives has caused damage to buildings and disturbed their sleep. The La Valle Casa building literally shook from its roots like an earthquake, and residents are at their wits’ end.

Nandini Dev of La Valle Casa society said that they cannot bear such blasts anymore, and demanded that the NHAI takes immediate action to ensure their safety.
