Pune, 8th April 2023: The Pune-Pimpri Chinchwad city ring road project has been undertaken to tackle traffic congestion. On Friday (7th April), the Leader of Opposition, Ajit Pawar, demanded that the land acquisition work for the Ring Road should be expedited.

He said, “Even when I was in the opposition party, I raised the issue of the ring road in the convention. The officials were asked to speed up the land acquisition work.”

The ring road will help to reduce traffic congestion in both the cities of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Vehicles going to districts such as Nagar, Solapur, Nashik, Shirdi, Satara, etc., will pass through this ring road. Conversely, traffic in the city will decrease.

During the Mahavikas Aghadi government, the then Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar took the initiative to speed up the work of the Ring Road. He reviewed the progress of the work every week. However, the Shinde-Fadnavis government has since come to power in the state. Despite being in the opposition party, Pawar demanded that the land acquisition for the ring road should be done soon.

The Pune Ring Road has two phases, namely East and West. The total length of the Ring Road is about 173 km. The estimated cost for land acquisition is Rs 10,520 crores, while the cost for construction is expected to be Rs 17,723 crores.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has undertaken the district’s ring road project, and a loan of Rs 3,500 crores will be raised from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) for the same. The government has also guaranteed this loan. However, no particular progress has been made regarding land acquisition.

Pawar emphasized that the Metro work should be expedited as well. He stated that those responsible for significant projects such as the Ring Road and Metro should review the work progress every week. All aspects should be reviewed, and the project should be accelerated.
