Pune, 7th April 2023: The tribal Kurmi community’s protest has led to the cancellation of two trains from Pune.

Train number 12129 Pune – Howrah Azad Hind Express scheduled to depart from Pune today (April 7) and 12221 Pune – Howrah Duronto Express tomorrow (April 8) have been cancelled, informed the railways through a press release.

The protest is taking place on the Kharagpur-Tata section of South Eastern Railway’s Kharagpur division and the Adra-Chandil section of Adra division.

The Kurmi community is protesting against the lack of recognition of their community as a Scheduled Tribe. The community has been demanding that they be granted the status of a Scheduled Tribe under the Indian Constitution, which would give them access to certain rights and benefits.

The protest has disrupted railway services, causing inconvenience to passengers who had booked tickets for the canceled trains.
