Pune: Former Congress Corporator Avinash Bagve Receives Extortion Call Of Rs 30 Lakhs

Pune, 5th April 2023: Former Congress corporator Avinash Bagve has filed a complaint with the Samarth Police Station after an unknown person contacted him demanding extortion of Rs 30 lakhs. The incident has created a stir in political circles after another politician, former house leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, corporator Ganesh Bidkar, was also recently threatened with extortion.

Bagve received a WhatsApp call from an unknown person who threatened him with physical harm and demanded the money, warning that he would not be allowed to contest elections otherwise. Bagve’s political career was also threatened, with the caller claiming that they would use bullets to end it. Following Bagve’s complaint, a case has been registered and the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Crime Branch has taken over the investigation.

In a separate incident during the Shree Ram Navami procession, an unknown person called BJP leader Ganesh Bidkar and demanded extortion of Rs 20 lakh.

Earlier, a caller had demanded Rs 3 crore from a builder in favor of state general secretary of BJP Muralidhar Mohol. Police have arrested two individuals in this case.

Bagve was elected from the Kasewadi area in Bhawani Peth, an area that is dominated by his family.

The police are currently searching for the culprits responsible for the extortion attempts.
