Pune, 4th April 2023: The Pune District Motor Goods Transport Association has opposed the state government’s policy of handing over toll booths at state borders to private companies. According to the instructions of the central government, these toll booths have been given to Adani’s company, and no arrangements have been made for the toll booths. Additionally, the association has demanded that the ongoing financial exploitation should be stopped immediately.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari approved the proposal to close the check posts of Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) at the borders of all the states in the recent parliamentary session. Meanwhile, a lot of work was ordered to be done at the check post, after which the canals were going to be privatized. The state of Gujarat closed all its check posts in the country. However, in Maharashtra, before the privatization of RTO check posts on the borders of Kagal, Jalgaon, Nanded, Raver, and Sindhudurg, no facilities were provided there.

Association President Rajendra Khedkar and Secretary Rajendra Singh Rajput said that Adani Company has been given these booths to operate, and Rs. 180 is being charged only for weighing the car at each checkpoint. Corruption is happening due to variations in the weight of scales. In the case of overloading from 10 kg to 100 kg, a total fine of Rs. 22,000 is being charged.

Khedkar and Rajput informed that the organization has already informed the government that this financial exploitation should be stopped immediately. At the same time, all transporters’ organizations in the state are coming together against this, and if this complaint is not taken into account, they have warned to start an indefinite strike.

Rajendra Khedkar informed that tolls in the state were raised to 18 per cent, and goods transporters were given no entry in Pune. This has had an adverse effect on the freight transporters, due to which they too have to increase their rates by 25 per cent. Therefore, the increased toll should be stopped immediately.
