Strong Winds And Lightning Expected In Pune From 5th To 8th April, IMD Issues Alert

Pune, 3rd April 2023: According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune and the surrounding areas can expect some thundery activity and lightning starting from the evening of 5th April till 8th or 9th April.

During this period, there will be strong winds in the afternoon and evening hours, which may result in light rainfall. The intensity of the activity is likely to increase between 6th and 8th April with some isolated areas receiving light to moderate rainfall, informed Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather forecasting at IMD, Pune.

IMD has also issued impact-based advisories, which will be updated as and when required. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms.

A wind discontinuity line, also known as a trough or dronika rekha, stretches from Vidarbha to south Tamil Nadu. The line over the state of Maharashtra is expected to affect isolated areas and districts of Vidarbha initially, followed by isolated areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. The rainfall in these areas is likely to be light, accompanied by thundery activity, lightning, and brief periods of strong winds.
