Pune: Newly Asphalted Road Dug Up Again For Cable Laying, Angers Citizens

Sadashiv Peth, 3rd April 2023: The newly asphalted road between Nimbalkar Talim Chowk and Khunya Muralidhar Chowk in Sadashiv Peth has been dug up for laying cables by Reliance Jio, a private telecom company, just four days after its construction. Citizens are outraged as they believe their tax money is being wasted on this unplanned and inefficient administration of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Due to the digging, the area is again filled with dust, potholes, and traffic congestion. The Municipal Corporation had allowed the company to lay cables on the newly constructed road, but citizens feel that the work should have been done before the asphalting of the road.

This is not an isolated incident as road digging is being carried out continuously in Peth areas for various reasons, causing inconvenience to citizens. The municipal corporation has even floated tenders worth hundreds of crores of rupees for road repairs, but citizens are not seeing any significant improvement due to the repeated digging of roads. Although the roads department of the municipality informs the MSEDCL, Drainage, and Water Supply Department to repair the road in advance, many roads in the city have still been excavated by these departments.

Citizens are demanding strict action against the irresponsible officials who allowed the digging of the newly asphalted road and want the expenses incurred to be recovered from their salary for negligence. The local citizens feel that the municipal corporation is wasting their tax money and inefficiently managing the road repair work, causing unnecessary inconvenience to the public.

The city president of NCP, Prashant Jagtap, has also demanded legal action against the officials responsible for this negligence.
