Pune: Undri Residents To Protest From 31st March To Draw Attention PMC On Water Problems
Undri, 30th March 2023: Residents in several places, including Punekar Mala, Takle Vasti, Kanade Nagar, and Atur Nagar, receive drinking water only once every five days. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) provides only nine tankers out of a total of 20, which are insufficient for the citizens of these areas.
The citizens are demanding an increase in the number of tankers so that they can receive water every three days. Despite raising the issue, PMC has not helped the locals by increasing the number of tankers. Reportedly, the residents of Undri have planned a strike at Undri Chowk on 31st March to draw the attention of officials to this growing problem.
Swati Takle, a former Pune Zilla Parishad member and current Shiv Sena-Shinde group member, stated that the Hadapsar Kamthe Mala tank supplies water to Undri village, but only nine tankers out of the 20 are provided to the people, which is insufficient.
Apart from this, the state of the tank is also alarming. It has been observed that the electrical DP box is open, neglected, and covered in grime, and the machines are rusty. Takle stated that with this strike, they are trying to catch PMC’s attention and help the locals obtain their essential source of drinking water.
Subhash Ghule, a former Gram Panchayat member, informed that PMC has been ignoring this area for the past two years. To prevent the locals from consuming unhygienic water, the protestors are demanding not only extra water tanks but also an appropriate water supply.
He further explained that there is a separate water supply line that runs from Sasane Nagar to Undri, but there are numerous illegal connections at many locations, which has had a significant impact on the water supply. He said that the issue should be resolved as soon as possible, and PMC should provide residents with access to necessities.
