Pune, 30th March 2023: In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion on the Singhgad road, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been constructing a flyover from Rajaram Bridge to Funtime. However, due to the barricading in Rajaram Bridge, Vitthalwadi, Hingane Chowk, Santosh Hall Chowk, and Manik Baug Chowk for the bridge construction, the road has become narrow, leading to huge traffic jams during morning and evening rush hours.

The heavy influx of cement mixers, large trucks carrying radars, and other heavy vehicles on this road has increased the risk of accidents. As a result, local citizens are demanding that heavy vehicles be banned on this road.

The construction work for the flyover has been going on for the last year, resulting in significant barricading on the road, leaving only one lane for traffic in several areas. Furthermore, after the movement of PMPML and private buses on this road, the entire road is getting more narrow. The signal timings to Dhayari and Swargate need to be increased, but this has been overlooked, leading to long queues of vehicles in the morning and late afternoon.

Additionally, a significant number of vegetable sellers are seen sitting on the side of the road on the way to Dhayari, leading to further congestion during rush hours.

While a canal road has been opened at the back of PL Deshpande Park as an alternative route, there is no clear information about it. The alternative road boards have been put up in the Vitthalwadi area, even though they were expected to be put up from Dattawadi. As a result, many people are unaware of this road. After coming from Dhayari and taking the alternative road to PL Deshpande Park, riders have to take a detour from Navsha Maruti, leading to fewer drivers using this road.

Overall, the ongoing construction work, heavy vehicles, and lack of clear information about the alternative road are causing significant traffic congestion and risks to road safety, calling for immediate attention and action from the authorities.
