NCP-led Chipko Movement in Pune: Hugging Trees to Save Them from Being Cut River Rejuvenation Project

Shivajinagar, 27th March 2023: The Chipko movement, aimed at preventing the felling of trees for the river rejuvenation project, has gained momentum in Pune. During the presentation of the second budget, Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar disclosed information about the ongoing felling of trees.

In response, activists belonging to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) staged a protest in front of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Garden on Jungli Maharaj Road. The NCP-led movement aims to halt the cutting of 6,000 trees for the river rejuvenation project.

During the protest, NCP spokesperson Pradeep Deshmukh hugged a tree while several other activists joined in. NCP Pune City President Prashant Jagtap led the demonstration.
