Pune: Leakage Rate Of Temghar Dam Reduced By 96 Per Cent, Says Deputy CM Fadnavis

Pune, 17th March 2023: Rs 91.66 crore has been spent on the repair work to prevent leakage from the Temghar dam. Rs 456.58 crore has been spent so far for the complete work of the dam. Six years ago, the amount of water leakage from the dam was 2,587 litres per second. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has informed in the session that due to repairs, the amount of leakage has been reduced by 96 per cent, i.e., 197 litres per second. Meanwhile, Fadnavis said that due to a lack of revised administrative approval, the repair work has been stopped from July 2020.

An MLA raised a question about the leakage of water from the Temghar Dam. While replying to it, Fadnavis gave this information. An expert committee has been appointed to prevent the leakage from the dam, and the works were started under their guidance.

For 100 per cent completion of these works, additional funds of Rs 52.95 crore from the ongoing tender and Rs 46.08 crore yet to be tendered are required. Rs 99 crore for dam leakage prevention works and Rs 95.57 crore for dam safety works are proposed. This proposal has been received by the government and action is being taken on the proposal. In reply, Fadnavis said that after getting the second administrative approval for the Temghar project, it is planned to take up the remaining works of this project immediately.

Temghar Dam was inspected by the then Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan on 6th August 2016 and on 31 August 2019, and it was noticed that the dam was leaking. Also, Fadnavis said that after taking up the dam leakage prevention works, the expert committee appointed for guidance has conducted a total of 10 inspection tours and meetings, and the expert committee has expressed satisfaction regarding the leakage prevention works.
