Pune: Seven Tons Of Plastic Bottles Collected In Plastic Waste Collection Competition Organized By PMC

Pune, 16th March 2)23: The citizens of Pune responded well to the plastic waste collection competition announced by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to eliminate plastic waste. Seven tons of 68 kg plastic bottles have been collected in 15 ward offices of the Municipal Corporation. Dhankawadi ward office is leading in this and is followed by the Hadapsar Mundhwa ward office.

To promote the collection of plastic waste in the city and to inculcate the habit of plastic waste collection in the city, Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kumar announced a ‘plastic waste collection competition’ on 1st February.

Additional Commissioner Kunal Khemnar announced the prizes of smartphones, smartwatches, and electric bikes to the winners of this competition organized in collaboration with Cummins India. This competition was till 28th February, but due to getting a good response from the citizens, the municipal administration extended the deadline of this competition till 15th March.

Attractive murals, paver blocks, interlocking blocks, and other items will be made from plastic bottles collected at municipal authorized recyclers or processors. The materials will be made and used for city beautification or the beautification of parks, roads, and footpaths. 1,153 people participated at an individual level in the competition, with 91 at the educational level and 147 at the institutional level.
