Lonavala, 12th January 2023: Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh has instructed authorities to prepare a traffic management plan within a week by studying the traffic problem in Lonavala scientifically.

Under the chairmanship of Collector Dr Deshmukh, a meeting was held in the standing committee hall of the Lonavala Municipal Council office regarding the solution to the traffic problem in the city. On this occasion, Additional Superintendent of Police Mitesh Ghatte, Mulshi-Maval sub-divisional officer Sandesh Shirke, Vadgaon Maval Tehsildar Madhusudan Barge, Municipal Council Chief Pandit Patil, and others were present.

Dr Deshmukh said the administration should take immediate action to solve the traffic problem in the city. Regarding the traffic problem in the city, the municipal council chief should hold a meeting with trade associations, social organizations, rickshaw associations etc. and understand their hurdles. As citizens have to pay road tax (toll) at both the Kusgaon toll gate and the Varsoli toll gate, a proposal should be submitted to the government in this regard. As the entire economy of the city depends on tourism, special attention should be paid to providing basic facilities to the tourists, said the Collector.

On this occasion, the Police Inspector of Lonavala City Police Station Dubal gave detailed information about the problem of traffic and parking in the Lonavala examination hall and the plans to solve it. Lonavala city is located between Pune and Mumbai, so the number of tourists is significant. Due to this, there is a traffic jam from Apollo Garage to the Bharat Petroleum Pump diversion. Alternative ways were suggested for this.

Widening of the road from Kumar Chowk to Bhangarwadi, planning of rickshaw station in the city and on Mumbai Pune highway, providing alternative places to the concerned, providing adequate parking arrangement for vehicles by Municipal Council, Discussions were held in the meeting on starting signal system, installation of new signals, settlement of stray animals, unauthorized hawkers, vegetable vendors, installation of over bridge at Bhangarwadi and Khandala, relocation of the bus station in Lonavala city outside the city, fixing of loading-unloading time for business class, and other factors were discussed.
