CII Pune organises CII Green Conclave

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Pune had organized the 3rd Edition of “CII Green Conclave” today in Pune.  This Conclave was supported by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).

Mr Sachin Patwardhan, Chairman – State Public Accounts Committee & Leader – BJP who delivered the keynote address congratulated CII for creating this platform which explored various approaches to Energy, Water and Waste management. He spoke in length on Government’s ‘Jalyukta Shivar Yojana’ and ‘Right to Service Act 2015’.He also mentioned about ‘Srushti Mitra Pariwar’ which is a initiative of Government of Maharashtra to recognize efforts & actions for raising awareness about and conservation of the environment.

The guest of honour Mr Popatrao Baguji Pawar, Sarpanch, Hiware Bazar briefed the audience on the journey of turning Hiware Bazar a village situated in drought prone Ahmednagar district into India’s model village. He informed that Hiware Bazaar Gram Panchayat has imposed a complete ban on digging borewells for irrigation purpose, ban on water intensive crop cultivation (banana & sugarcane) and ban on selling of land to outsiders. They have been conducting an annual water audit, measuring the total availability of water. Many families that earlier migrated to urban areas have come back to the village, he said. “Show me one mosquito in Hiware Bazar & I will give you Rs.100”, challenges Mr Pawar. The village is so clean and they fight malaria so well, that it is difficult to find any mosquito’s here. This village has been visited by many VIPs, famous politicians, national & international delegation.

Mr K S Venkatagiri, Executive Director, CII – Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre said that ‘Going Green’ is the new imperative as we move towards competitive world. He said that we must target ‘Zero’ in Waste, Carbon and Toxicity from products & processes and also extend the sphere of excellence beyond the boundaries i.e Collaboration with Suppliers and Collaboration in Logistics. CII is playing a catalytic role in promoting Green Business in the Country, he added.

Mr Abhay Pendse, Conclave Chairman and Convenor, CII Pune Energy, Environment and Sustainability Panel and Assistant Vice President & Head – Shindewadi Works,  Godrej & Boyce Mfg Co Ltd;  Mr Shrikant Bapat, Co-Convenor, CII Pune Energy, Environment and Sustainability Panel and Country General Manager & Managing Director, Johnson Controls (India) Pvt Ltd; Mr J P Shroff, Chairman – IGBC Pune Chapter, CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre; Mr J K Bhosale, Chief Operating Officer, City Corporation Ltd; Mr H M Kulkarni, General Manager (RE) I/C, Maharashtra Energy Development Agenda (MEDA) and Mr Mahesh Zagade, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) also addressed during the Conclave.

The conference also highlighted “Kaizen Story sharing Presentation on Green Initiatives” and case studies of top green companies across industries and deliberated upon such issues facing the environment to find the way forward.

The session was well attended by 130 participants from across industries.
