Pune, 13th December 2022: A total of 19 hostels, including nine for boys and 10 for girls, are functioning on the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) premises. About 5,000 students admitted to various courses have a demand for hostels, and more than 3,000 students have been provided accommodation in the university premises considering the quality and social reservation, SPPU officials informed today.

Considering the increasing demand for students in hostels, the university administration has increased the capacity of the hostels by adding more cots in the hostel rooms wherever possible to accommodate a maximum number of students. However, while doing so, care has been taken to ensure that the capacity of the system is not violated to provide habitable facilities to the resident students.

The university has implemented a biometric system for the security of the hostel, and from tomorrow (14th December), only students admitted to the hostel will be allowed through this system.

The students who are not admitted to the hostel must take their accommodation elsewhere at their level. The administration is appealing to the students not to participate in any illegal agitation. “The university administration is very sensitive to this issue and students will be accommodated in a phased manner on vacant beds or newly created beds. Everyone should cooperate with the university in this regard”, SPPU stated in a press release.
