Pune: 24-Year-Old Sexually Assaults Minor, Vandalises Her House
Pune, 10th December 2022: A 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a 24-year-old man while she was playing badminton with her younger brother in Kondhwa on Monday. When the victim fled out of fear, the accused followed her.
The accused, together with his three accomplices, one of whom was his uncle, vandalised her home and threatened her family before she called the police. Four people have been booked.
On December 5, around 8 pm, the incident happened in a public area in Kondhwa. The victim, who is in class eight, resides with her mother and brother, who is 10 years old. They share a house with her maternal uncle. Her uncle had left for his hometown on the day of the incident. The accused resides nearby. The victim’s mother is a domestic helper.
The young girl was playing when the accused approached, caressed her neck, and grabbed her hand. He then queried whether she liked him. The girl was startled by the suddenness and fled to her residence. The accused pursued her to her home. Going home, she didn’t tell her mother about the incident. She told her maternal uncle about the incident on Thursday, and he subsequently told the victim’s mother. Her mother visited her school to confirm this. She sobbed and narrated the incident.
Her mother went to the Kondhwa police station and filed a complaint against him. When the accused learned this, he and his three pals went to the victim’s house and caused a commotion. He threatened her family and vandalised her home.
Accused and three other accomplices were charged by the Kondhwa police with violating the Indian Penal Code’s sections 457 (assault or criminal force in an attempt to wrongful confine a person), 354, 354(A) (sexual harassment), 354(D) (stalking), and 427 (mischief causing damage), as well as the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO).
