Kalyani Nagar, 10th November 2022: Today afternoon, a person posing as a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) official defrauded two individuals of Magnolia Annexe of Rs 7,570.

The imposter said that PMC wants to replace the trap in the drainage system near the gate by installing a Y-trap of chini matti of nine inches. This will ensure that there is no reverse flow of accumulated water into the society.

He asked them to send someone from the society to the PMC office in Yerwada for the material. He also claimed that they would have to pay Rs 7,570 and the PMC will issue a challan and refund Rs 7,000, thus retaining only Rs 570 for the work. The imposter then said he will take the security guard to PMC and quickly get this done.

He was asked to take a cheque which he refused saying that it would pose an issue for an instant refund. So he said the security guard can carry the amount in cash and he will bring back the refund immediately.

“I had Rs 6,000 in my wallet which I gave to the security guard and society secretary gave the balance Rs 1,570,” the society member said.

“Our security guard left with this imposter on his motorcycle parked somewhere outside our society. Our guard was taken to a medical store near Shastri Nagar where he saw the PMC board. The imposter asked him to hand the money over so that he can bring challan. The security told him he will accompany him, but the imposter insisted he wait till he pays and gets the challan,” the member explained further.

The security guard waited, after which the imposter gave him Rs 200 saying this was extra and moved forward on his bike with the guard. After a short distance, the imposter asked him to wait there and he left without returning. The guard was waiting for about an hour and was recalled back by the society secretary when he called on him.

“It was an unfortunate mistake on our part and the lapse of security who did not satisfy himself of the identity of the visitor before calling upon the residents to talk to such dubious people,” the member stated.

Now a complaint has been filed against the unidentified imposter at Yerwada Police station.

A similar incident had taken place at Konark Terrace Society where the imposter had taken Rs 10,000. A complaint was filed with the police and CCTV footage was also submitted but the cops are yet to nab the accused.
