Pune, 21st October 2022: Along with the planned international airport project at Purandar, a multi-purpose cargo storage and transportation centre (multimodal logistics hub) has been proposed. Therefore, the administration has now once again decided to re-evaluate the area fixed for this integrated project.

It has been decided to acquire land for the airport as per Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Act. Earlier this responsibility was with Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC). Therefore, MADC evaluated the site fixed for the airport. However, since a multi-purpose cargo transportation and storage centre will also be constructed along with the airport, the administration has decided to re-evaluate the relevant site.

Meanwhile, some locals are opposed to the Purandar airport project. For that, the administration will soon communicate with the locals. Land acquisition notification of the project will be issued after the re-evaluation process is completed. Therefore, a meeting of the senior officers of MIDC will be held after Diwali.

Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, Collector said “District administration level work is a part of the process regarding the planned international airport. Accordingly, the district administration is working at the local level. As soon as the land acquisition notification is published by MIDC, further action will be initiated. Earlier, because of the opposition to the airport project, a discussion will be held with the divisional commissioner and a dialogue will be held with the locals.”

It was earlier said that the Mahavikas Aghadi government will change the location of the airport. However, after the Maha Vikas Aghadi government stepped down and the Shinde-Fadnavis government came to power, it has been decided to restore the airport to its old location.

A period of 2.5 years has passed in between. Therefore, it has been decided to re-evaluate the number of affected families, their land, growth area, and agriculture, area in seven villages of Purand namely Vanpuri, Udachiwadi, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Munjewadi, Khanwadi and Pargaon, so that maximum compensation is given to the affected.
