Pune: ‘Walking Plaza’ In Sarasbaug Area; Plan To Be Finalized Soon
Pune, 10th October 2022: On behalf of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), a walking plaza will be developed at Sarasbaug and a plan has been prepared for the same. There is a possibility that the encroachments in the area will be curbed as Sarasbaug will be restructured. Also, pedestrians will be able to walk through the area without hindrance.
Two-way food stalls on the road outside Sarasbaug; there are also stalls of toys for children. Reportedly, PMC has given business licenses to 53 people in this area. However, the businessmen have given the appearance of a hotel to the stall, and many workers also live there.
The Encroachment Department of PMC had taken action on the stalls in Sarasbaug in May. The Municipal Corporation had taken the position that the businessmen should give an undertaking of doing business within the permitted premises and not encroaching and only after that their stalls would be approved.
But some political parties and Hawkers Professional Associations demanded a permanent solution to it. Therefore, it was decided to prepare a plan for a walking plaza for the municipal corporation. This plan has been prepared and after discussing this plan with all the relevant parties, a meeting will be held in this regard in the next few days and it will be finalized.
After the construction of the walking plaza, two-wheelers and four-wheelers will be able to take their vehicles to the parking lot near Peshwa Park in the Chowpatty area. Therefore, it has been claimed by the municipal administration that those coming to Sarasbaug will now be able to walk on this road without fear.
At present, there are shops on both sides of Sarasbaug Chowpatty. All the shops adjacent to the Sarasbaug boundary wall will be shifted to the front. There will also be a separate arrangement for toys there. The decision will be finalized only after discussion with professionals. PMC will bear all the expenses for the walking plaza.
