Pune: Resolutions Made At Conference Regarding Participation Of Third Gender In Democracy

Pune, 15th September 2022: Information regarding the resolutions of the two-day state-level conference on ‘Participation of the third gender in democracy’ jointly organized by the Chief Election Officer, Maharashtra and Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will be presented to the People’s Representatives, Social Welfare Department, officers of all departments, media, and educational institutions. Shrikant Deshpande, Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra stated this during the conclusion of the conference.

 

The conference was organized at Sant Namdev Auditorium of Savitribai Phule Pune University. In the third session on the second day of the conference, the topic ‘Health and Shelter of Third Gender’ was discussed. It was attended by the officials of the health department and officials of MHADA who are working in this field.

 

In the concluding session, a discussion was held with dignitaries, including State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar, Chief Electoral Officer Deshpande, University Registrar Dr Prafull Pawar, representatives of political parties Ulhas Pawar, Manisha Kayande, Rekha Thakur, Ranjit Shirole, Lata Bhise Sonwane, and others.

 

At this time, members of the transgender community presented their problems before the office bearers. On this occasion, the office bearers of all parties presented their position regarding the work to be done for the community in the future.

 

 

 

Chakankar informed that a 25-bed department for third-gender persons is being prepared in Sassoon with the follow-up of the Women’s Commission.

 

 

 

Deshpande said, “On this occasion, we have joined a big family. The third gender community present here will act as ambassadors for that district in the work of voter registration.”
