Kalyani Nagar, 19th August 2022: With Kalyani Nagar rapidly transforming from a quiet residential suburb to a vibrant commercial hub of Pune, the high-density transiting traffic of two and four-wheelers, mainly on Kalyani Nagar’s two major roads – the VVIP Airport Road and the riverside Vithalrao Vandekar Road, have substantially increased especially post-Covid causing daily traffic jams and congestions.

Due to this, the residents have been facing issues in commuting to and fro and have requested to have a Traffic Police Chowki with sufficient power to control, regulate and monitor the traffic on these roads.

Regarding this, Dhairyashil Vandekar, president of Vithalrao Vandekar Foundation, while writing a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Pune, said, ‘’This Traffic Police Chowki can be ideally located near the Aga bridge on PMC land and will also be extremely useful to control the heavy traffic when the riverside road to Kharadi to Kalyani Nagar is made operational.”

A resident of Kalyani Nagar, Manu Khanna, said, ‘’The residents are being put to severe hardship and inconvenience due to this daily problem which is also causing air pollution, fuel wastage and health problems. The traffic congestion is also leading to this traffic now spilling into the inner bylanes, as frustrated drivers try to find their way out of jams.”

Another resident, Naushad Furniturewala, said, “We face this issue daily, and it is also estimated to get worse with the metro passing through Kalyani Nagar.”
