IAF To Handover Land For Cargo Facility At Pune Airport In Few Days: MP Girish Bapat

Pune, 11th June 2022: Girish Bapat, MP and Chairman – Airport Advisory Committee, Pune Airport carried out a review and inspection of the developmental works being carried out at Pune Airport during the week.

He reviewed the various projects and infrastructure development works happening in and around Pune Airport alongwith representatives of the Airports Authority of India, Pune Municipal Corporation and other stakeholders.

1) New Terminal Building – He surveyed the new Terminal Building site and was informed that 60% of the work has been completed as of date. He enquired about any roadblocks to the project and emphasised the need for the new terminal building to cater to the increasing passenger traffic at Pune Airport.

2) Multi Level Car Park (MLCP) – Bapat visited the MLCP and was briefed about the current status of work. He informed that after continuous discussions with Chairman-AAI, the approval for travelator on the walkway connecting MLCP to the Terminal building has been approved and the same would be provided soon. He further asked the MLCP agency to ensure that the MLCP facility was put into operation at the earliest so that the parking issue at the Airport is resolved soon.

3) IAF land for Cargo Facility – He informed that as per his discussions with IAF officials, an area of 1.76 acres would initially be handed over to AAI-Pune Airport for starting an interim Cargo Facility. This handing over of 1.76 acres the IAF land to AAI is likely to happen in the next few days. With the shifting of existing Cargo to this interim facility, the work of New Terminal building can be continued without any hindrance.

4) Road connectivity to Viman Nagar – Bapat urged PMC officials to coordinate with IAF and AAI-Pune Airport to take up on priority the work of road connectivity from Airport via Viman Nagar by completing the balance stretch on 2350 sqm of IAF land.

5) Beautification around the Airport – He advised the PMC officials to take up beautification work around the Airport and to ensure the necessary repair of roads and pavements are carried out at the earliest.

6) Extension of Runway – Bapat urged representatives of PMC and IAF to complete the necessary process of land aquisition on western end of the runway so that the existing runway can be extended to facilitate the landing of bigger aircrafts thereby improving international connectivity.

While concluding his review, Bapat emphasised that with the air passenger traffic reaching pre-Covid levels and growing steadily, all the infrastructural and development works being carried out in and around the airport should be completed on time so that passengers using Pune Airport can make use of these enhanced and improved facilities.

Airport Director Santosh Dhoke informed that the land and development issues of Pune Airport have been sorted out due to the continuous efforts of Bapat.
