22 persons in two state transport buses washed away in Mahad Raigad

Raigad : Two state transport buses with 22 persons on board washed away after a British-era bridge over Savitri river collapsed on the Mumbai-Goa highway on Tuesday night.

The incident took place around 11:30 pm during heavy rains in the area which flooded the river.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that rescue operations has been launched by the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

About 120 men from Pune-based NDRF and 156 divers from Navy are searching for the survivors.

Officials said that there are two bridges over the area. The old one which collapsed was built by the Britishers.
