Pune, 27th April 2022: Muslim priests (Maulana) of five mosques of Lohia Nagar in Pune city have decided not to play DJ and loudspeaker during the two-day Eid celebrations. They have appealed to Muslims to refrain from spending money on music and utilise the amount to help needy people. Eid will be celebrated on May 3.

Maulana Mohsin Raza, the imam of the Bhartiya Anjuman Qadariya Mosque in Lohiya Nagar, said, “The loud music of DJ is not good for people, especially those who are ill. We have formed a committee of senior community members as well as functionaries of the five mosques. The committee has decided not to have DJ music during the Eid al-Fitr celebration.”

He added, “Islam commands us to spread peace, brotherhood, communal harmony all over the world. Keeping the current situation in the country, it is also our responsibility to take some good steps. In view of this, we have decided not to play DJ and loudspeakers on the two-day celebrations of Eid.”

Speaking about the use of loudspeakers in masjids, he said that they are following the Supreme Court’s guidelines on noise pollution and the volume during ‘azaan’ is always kept low.

“People from different religions are residing in the area but no one has complained of any disturbance due to the use of loudspeaker for ‘azaan’. We celebrate all the festivals in harmony,” Raza said.
