Pune: The traffic branch of Pune city police have collected over Rs 4.64 crore from 2.41 lakhs drivers for allegedly using tinted glasses on their vehicles.

The information was obtained by activist Prafulla Sarda under the Right to Information (RTI) Act from Pune traffic police.

As per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, the use of dark or black glasses is not allowed.

Sarda said, “Normally Pune City police is blamed for various issues from traffic mis-management to corruption but Pune Police force is completely back in action and in last 6 months they have collected almost Rs 2.5 crore and this is actually huge revenue to the traffic division.  The said amount is collected from people who are not following tinted mirror rule and judgement passed by the Supreme Court in 2012.  This time we must congratulate the department for their corrective actions on the people who are violating rules.”
