Woman dead in accident, Driver Cosmos Bank group chairman arrested

Pune – The group chairman of Cosmos Bank Ltd, Mukund Abhyankar, was arrested on Sunday night after his car knocked down a woman riding two-wheeler resulting in her death on Bhandarkar Road in Deccan area.

The deceased has been identified as Arundhati Girish Hasabnis. She worked with another bank.

According to police, the accident took place around 3 pm opposite Bank of Baroda branch on Bhandarkar Road on Sunday. Arundhati was riding an Activa towards Goodluck chowk, when Abhyankar’s Santro car hit her bike and she fell down. Even though she was wearing helmet, she sustained severe head injuries resulting in her death.

Police said that Kaustubh Tambade (23) from Gokhalenagar called the police and ambulance, while Abhyankar was fleeing from the spot when a police patrolling van intercepted him.

Police officials said that Arundhati is survived by her husband and two and half year old son.

Arundhati’s relative Vikram Dhut (35) has registered an FIR against Abhyankar for offences under sections 304A (causing death due to negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
