Pune: Woman Duped Of Rs 62 Lakh By Matrimony Website Acquaintance
Wakad, 17th January 2022: A 37-year-old woman was duped of Rs 62 lakh by a man who promised to marry her. They had met through a matrimonial website. The accused claimed to be a civil engineer in the UK.
Based on a complaint from the woman who works as a management executive with a private company, Wakad police station under Pimpri Chinchwad police has registered a cheating case.
According to police, the accused had told the woman that he will marry her after returning to India. They had met through a matrimonial website in the second week of December last year. They used to talk on video calls and he gained her trust. He started demanding money under various pretexts like sending luggage, processing fees etc. She transferred Rs 61.99 lakh in 15 transactions.
After realizing that she had been cheated, she approached the police.
