Pune: Crime Branch Seizes 102 kg Sandalwood, Accused Arrested For Smuggling

Pune, 5th December 2021: The anti-extortion cell 2 of Pune city police Crime Branch has arrested a man who was allegedly smuggling sandalwood on Pune-Ahmednagar Road. Sandalwood pieces weighing 102 kg and a car, totally worth Rs 5 lakh 59 thousand, were seized from him.

The accused has been identified as Laxman Bhima Gaikwad (42), a resident of Tardobachiwadi, Shirur.

Acting on a tip-off, cops nabbed Gaikwad near Perne Phata and recovered the sandalwood pieces worth Rs 4.09 lakh from his car. An FIR has been registered against him at Lonikand police station, Pune city police.

 

Police said that the accused is a history-sheeter with cases registered against him at Manchar police station (Pune district) and Parner police station (Ahmednagar district) for sandalwood smuggling.

The action was taken by a team comprising Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare, Assistant Police Inspector Laxman Dhengale, and police personnel Vijay Gurav, Pradip Shitole, Shailesh Surve, Rahul Uttarkar, Vinod Salunke, Sangram Shingare, Saidoba Bhojrao, Amol Pilane, Praveen Padwal, Chetan Shirolkar, Pradip Gade, Mohan Yelpalle, and Rupali Karwar.
