99% Of World Population Is Breathing Polluted Air: WHO

Pune, 6th April 2022: Around 99% of the world’s population is breathing polluted air. Harmful components like particulate matter and nitrogen oxide directly enter the human body through polluted air, this will have an impact on human beings in future, warned the World Health Organisation (WHO).

On the occasion of World Health Day (7th April), the organisation expressed fear about the rising threat of air pollution. The organisation also said that there is an urgent need to tackle this problem.

In urban areas, due to the increased use of fossil fuels, harmful gases like nitrogen oxide are emitted. It is necessary to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels.

Currently, the air quality is being monitored in six thousand cities in the world. This number needs to be increased. The WHO also appealed to the countries to follow the air pollution prevention guidelines released by the organization.
