70 Per Cent Passengers Uses Digital Media For Buying Metro Tickets; Pune Metro Leading In Country In Digital Tickets

Pune, 4th September 2024: While 70 per cent of passengers are using digital mode to buy tickets for Pune Metro, only 30 per cent are paying cash. Pune Metro is leading in the country in terms of digital tickets. Meanwhile, Pune Metro passengers have increased by 20 per cent in August.

Digital ticketing is helping the environmental sustainability goals by saving paper. According to the data, 20 per cent passengers have purchased metro tickets through digital kiosks at metro stations, six per cent through ticket vending machines, 18.8 per cent through WhatsApp, 9.17 per cent through mobile apps, and 13 per cent through Mahametro cards.

After the opening of the Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi route of the Pune Metro, the number of daily passengers is increasing and the average number of daily passengers has increased to 1,18,241 in August through which an income of Rs 5.69 crore has been received. The average daily income has been reported to be Rs 18.68 lakh. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to District Court route is used by 29 per cent while the Ramwadi to Vanaj route is used by 71 per cent.

Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director, Mahametro, stated that the daily ridership has increased by more than 20 per cent in August 2024, which is good news for the public transport of Pune city.” He further informed that the metro tickets are being purchased through digital media in large numbers showing the environmental awareness of Pune residents. Digital ticketing is more than 70 per cent and this is the best example across India.
