63rd Maharashtra Kesari starts off today

Pune, 3 January, 2020 : Solapur’s Abasaheb Atkale clinched the 57kg gold by defeating Santosh Hirgude in the 63rd edition of the prestigious Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Championships at the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi-Mhalunge on Friday.
Played on mud, the bout was tied 8-8. The result went in Abasaheb’s favour as he was the one to clinch the last point. Interestingly, Santosh and Abasaheb train together at decorated coach and former wrestler Kaka Pawar’s academy in Katraj.
“We train together at the academy, but that didn’t make the bout easy for me. On the contrary, it was difficult for me to find the strategy against Santosh, as we both know each others’ game very well.” Abasaheb had won silver in the last edition of Maharashtra Kesari.
In the 79kg weight category final in the mud section, Osmanabad’s Hanumant Puri defeated Sagar Chougule 5-0.
For Brozne in 79 Kgs Mud category Dhanrma Shinde from Nashik defeated Giridhari Dube of Parbhani 8-2 to win Bronze medal.
The tournament is being organised by Maharashtra State Wrestling Association and City Corporation Ltd, Develoers of Amanora Township in Pune.
