Pune, 18th July 2024: In compliance with a directive from the Bombay High Court, the Pune District Collector has revoked the suspension of the liquor license for the 2BHK Diner & Key Club, allowing it to resume operations effective immediately.

On 27th June 2024, the High Court had instructed the District Collector of Pune to expedite a decision regarding the suspension of the liquor license of 2BHK Club, which had been suspended in light of a recent incident involving a Porsche in Pune.

Expressing his satisfaction with the Collector’s decision, Dr. Heramb Shelke, the owner of 2BHK Diner & Key Club, stated, “Our club is now open to serve our patrons. We urge responsible drinking and will strictly enforce age restrictions for entry.”

This decision comes amidst appeals from Pune’s restaurateurs, who faced substantial financial losses due to similar license suspensions affecting more than 70 clubs across the district. Many in the food and beverage industry have voiced concerns over what they perceive as unwarranted harassment and unfavorable treatment by authorities in Maharashtra.

“In contrast to Maharashtra, states like Goa, Bangalore, and Delhi have shown greater support to the hospitality industry,” noted members of a local hotel association. “This has prompted several businesses to consider relocating operations to more accommodating environments.”

With the 2BHK Club now permitted to resume serving alcohol, it stands as a beacon of hope for other establishments still grappling with suspended licenses. Industry professionals are hopeful that this development will pave the way for a more conducive business climate in Pune, enabling them to refocus on serving their clientele and revitalizing their businesses.

The reinstatement of the 2BHK Club’s license marks a significant development in the ongoing saga surrounding liquor license suspensions in Pune, offering a glimpse of potential relief for affected businesses and employees within the hospitality sector.

Since a hit-and-run accident on May 19, 2024, Pune’s restaurant sector has suffered severe challenges, leading to unemployment, tax losses, and substantial revenue declines for the state. Urgent reinstatement of liquor licenses for all affected restaurants is crucial for industry recovery”.
