Pune, 30th July 2024: Around 2,500 homes of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) are currently unoccupied. Private business organizations will be appointed to sell these homes. If group reservations are made for the flats, a discount of up to 15% will be given.

From MHADA, homes are offered to needy citizens at prices below market value. However, many times these homes do not get sold, leading to their reallocation in the next round. For the past few years, certain homes under specific policies have remained unsold and are repeatedly reallocated.

COVID-19 Isolation Impacts Home Sales

Most of these unsold MHADA homes are in the Mahalunge area. During the COVID-19 period, many of these vacant homes were used for isolation, leading to reluctance among people to purchase them. Additionally, temporary occupants during the pandemic damaged some of these homes. Proposals for repairs have been submitted to higher authorities. These homes are 2 BHK, and it has been observed that the demand for such large homes is low in Mahalunge and Chakan. As a result, these houses have remained unsold.
