Pune, 15th July 2024 – A new 1091 MW solar power project has been launched to provide sustainable daytime electricity to agriculture in western Maharashtra. This initiative is part of a broader effort to establish solar power facilities totaling 1991 MW across Pune, Solapur, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur districts in its initial phase. Notably, the Solapur district alone will see the installation of 867 MW across 98 substations.

Under the Maharashtra State Government’s Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0), rapid implementation is underway to ensure daytime electricity supply to agriculture through 710 substations in western Maharashtra. The overall plan aims to generate 5915 MW of solar power, with over 7669 acres of government land already acquired. The first phase focuses on establishing 1991 MW of solar capacity across 276 substations to meet the daytime electricity needs of agricultural activities.

This development is set to benefit thousands of farmers across 276 sub-centers by providing sustainable electricity for their daytime agricultural operations, fulfilling a long-standing demand. Ankush Nale, Pune Regional Director of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), has called upon local gram panchayats and citizens to extend their support to these solar power initiatives.

In the first phase across western Maharashtra, Pune district will receive 429 MW across 54 substations, Satara 208 MW across 39 substations, Sangli 317 MW across 41 substations, Kolhapur 170 MW across 44 substations, and Solapur 867 MW across 98 substations. Construction of these solar projects totaling 1991 MW for 276 substations is currently underway under the supervision of relevant authorities.

The key benefits of these solar power projects include meeting the demand for daytime electricity among farmers, providing significant subsidies to gram panchayats, creating employment opportunities with approximately 6000 full-time and 13000 part-time jobs, and enhancing public amenities across the state.
