Chinchwad, 23rd June 2024: A 14-year-old boy, riding a scooter without a driving license, crashed into a stationary car at Shahunagar junction in Chinchwad around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. The boy sustained injuries, and the car was damaged in the accident.

During their investigation, police discovered marijuana in the scooter’s compartment, leading to additional charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Senior Inspector Ganesh Jamdar of the MIDC Bhosari police provided details of the incident. “The police team reached the spot to verify the accident and assist the injured boy. While helping him, the boy started acting suspiciously. Our team then checked his scooter’s compartment and found marijuana in it,” Jamdar explained.

The boy was detained on Friday and subsequently transferred to the Boys’ Observation Home after being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

“We will also book the person who owns the scooter and allowed the minor boy to ride it, fully aware that he was underage and did not possess a valid driving license,” added Jamdar.

The police have filed a suo motu complaint against the boy for rash and negligent driving. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine how the boy came into possession of the marijuana and the circumstances under which he was allowed to drive the scooter.
