Pimpri Chinchwad, 30th July 2024: Under the limits of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC), a girl was murdered by having her throat slit. The murder occurred due to one-sided love as the accused killed her after she refused to marry him, stabbing and cutting her with a knife. The incident happened yesterday in Ambethan village, Khed, at around 11:00 PM. Pimpri Chinchwad Police arrested the accused within 12 hours of the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Prachi Vijay Mane, 21, a resident of Ambethan and a native of Sangli. Her friend complained to the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. The Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch Unit 3 has arrested Aviraj Kharat, a native of the Sangli district. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 103 (3) (punishment for murder) and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation).

According to police reports, the PCPC control room received information at 11:15 PM yesterday about a 21-year-old girl who had been murdered in Ambethan. The police rushed to the crime scene and found the victim with multiple knife wounds all over her body. The accused had fled with the deceased’s phone in an attempt to tamper with evidence.

Given the severity of the crime, Crime Branch Unit 3 initiated a swift investigation. Two Detection Branch (DB) teams began probing the case. Through the investigation, details of the accused’s face and bike were identified. One DB team travelled to the accused’s native place in Sangli. By examining CCTV footage along the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, they tracked the accused, who was travelling between Karad and Satara on a Pulsar bike. After chasing him for more than 15 kilometres, the police managed to detain him. Although he tried to flee, the officers, demonstrating bravery, caught him.

Upon arrest, the accused confessed to the murder, citing unrequited love and the victim’s refusal to marry him as motives. The police seized one Pulsar bike and three mobile phones from him. The case has been handed back to the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station by the Crime Branch Unit 3 of PCPC.
