Pune: Chief Minister Shinde Promises Permanent Solution for Flood-Affected Pimpri Residents

Pimpri Chinchwad, 5th August 2024: Riverside residents of Madhuban and Mulanagar are forced to migrate annually due to the flooding of the Mula and Pavana rivers. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured the flood victims that a permanent solution for their rehabilitation in a safe location would be found to end this recurring crisis.

Over a thousand residents were evacuated from the flood-hit areas of Pavana, Indrayani, and Mula rivers in Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Today, Chief Minister Shinde visited the families relocated to the shelter center at Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar School and inspected the affected areas. He was accompanied by Legislative Council Deputy Speaker Neelam Gorhe, MP Shrirang Barane, MLA Ashwini Jagtap, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, BJP City President Shankar Jagtap, and former Mayor Usha Dhore.

During his visit, Chief Minister Shinde engaged with the flood victims, inquiring about their annual plight during the rainy season. He asked if their homes were inundated, the number of people displaced, and whether they received necessary amenities, including food, from the municipal corporation. The victims suggested various measures to tackle the crisis, including building a boundary wall and renovating the area. In response, Shinde promised to find a permanent resettlement solution in a safe place for those who have to migrate each year due to flooding.

Chief Minister Shinde also reviewed the health facilities provided to the flood victims. He discussed with Health Medical Officer Dr. Laxman Gofane the availability of medical services, the status of medicine supplies, the prevalence of waterborne diseases, and whether the residents of the flood-affected areas had undergone medical examinations.

Prior to Chief Minister Shinde’s visit, the municipal administration hurriedly filled potholes in the Sangvi area. Repairs were made to the potholes in the premises of Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar School to ensure the Chief Minister did not encounter them. The roads were temporarily covered with gravel, mud, and soil.

This visit by Chief Minister Shinde has brought hope to the flood victims, who now await the promised permanent solution to their long-standing problem.
